The fandom while we wait

After 3 years of waiting, the Sherlock fandom finally got their most ardent wish, another season.  I have been a fan of Sherlock for only two years but I am just as excited and terrified at the same time.  Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger, with Sherlock being sent off to a deadly mission in Eastern Europe only to be summoned back by the government because of Moriarty’s threat.  The Abominable Bride last year gave fans a glimpse of what happened after the almost exile ending with Sherlock being so confident on what Moriarty’s next move would be.   So fans expected an episode about Moriarty or at least his “Did you miss me” video but the episode left us clueless on how they will solve the whole Moriarty mystery.

Did I miss Moriarty?  Yup! He’s probably the one super villain I can’t hate lol

Needless to say the entire episode was about something else, Mary’s past and how awesome she is. The episode started on a lighter note and treated the fans with fluff, in the person of baby Watson.  Rosamund Mary Watson or Rosie is John and Mary’s baby girl.  She is so cute!!!  We got a glimpse of domestic life of the Watson’s and how they are as parents.

Isn’t she lovely?

And then there is Molly Hooper. The amazing, beautiful, awesome Molly Hooper.  My favorite scene was during Rosie’s baptism, when Molly was scolding Sherlock about using the phone during the christening.  Molly gave Sherlock a stern look and uttered “phone” and he obediently followed.  The Sherlolly shipper in me was ecstatic over the fact that Sherlock listens to Molly. I wish there was more scene with Molly though.  I would love to see Molly joining the boys on their case in her own way like working in the lab or deducing the heck out of a cadaver lol.  I would to see Molly and Mary’s friendship blossom.  I just want more of my dear Molly.

My lovely Molly.  I just love her.

Look at my babies

aren’t they cute?

We were lulled into false sense of security then slowly the story went dark and it never stopped until we were left befuddled and grieving (or at least those who loved Mary Morstan Watson). I love watching the camaraderie among Sherlock, John and Mary.  They work well together, instead of ruining the chemistry between Sherlock and Sherlock (as most fans feared), Mary only made the duo better and helped Sherlock (more than John could ever do if I dare say it out loud) solve crimes.   Mary brought something new to the show, a new flavor, excitement and adventures.  She was able to mislead Sherlock, she has a mysterious past, and she is super smart and able to keep up with Sherlock.  Instead of being threatened when Sherlock returned from the dead, she actually liked him and never got in the way of the duo’s relationship and escapades.  She is even more attune to Sherlock’s temperament and knows when is lying.  She is perfection. How can I not love her? Yeah, she shot Sherlock but it was  Sherlock’s fault in the first place.  If Sherlock didn’t intervene with her plans and ended up in Magnussen’s office, Mary would have been able to neutralize the blackmailer and none would be the wiser.  They could go on their merry ways.  But no Sherlock has to be the dragon slayer, the hero that saves the world and ruin Mary’s plan.  I just hate the double standard in the show that appears from time to time.  John had no qualms killing the cabbie in the A Study of Pink but got mad at Mary for trying to do the same to Magnussen.  Sherlock goes around insulting people, thwarting plans of villains and shoot them if he can’t and still get to live a “normal life” while Mary left her dark past behind and lives her life always looking behind her back and living with the knowledge that her happiness will never last.

Mofftiss killed Mary off because they want to stay loyal to ACD canon, where Mary was barely mentioned, and because the show is and will always be about these two men gallivanting around solving crimes and Mary just can’t stay and remain a third wheel anymore.  They can do what they want, it’s their show after all but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.  They could have kept Mary and still let these two have their quests but then again it’s their show and they can do as they please.  So here I am still grieving over a death of a fictional character.  They let us see how bad ass Mary is, make us love her more than take her away from us right away.  I have to say that despite my disappointments, The Six Thatchers is all about Mary.

The many faces of Mary Morstan Watson

Mary is the first fully developed female character in the show.  Irene Adler was a awesome but in the end she lost to Sherlock because of sentiment aka falling for Sherlock.  I have to admit it kind of ruin the episode for me.  In the ACD canon, Adlersimply bested Holmes and got away with her plans, leaving Holmes with such strong impression that he called her “The Woman”.  In Sherlock, Adler was the villain that Holmes eventually vanquished.  Molly Hooper has been around since the first episode but she was first introduced as simply a person who is so into Holmes but was totally ignored, a plot device to show the audience that Sherlock is not normal like us and no time for sentiments.  Mofftiss kept Molly around but still relegated to limited scenes (that didn’t stop fans from loving her though and shipping her with Sherlock) and while they can argue that Molly has grown so much from being the lovesick puppy that Sherlock manipulates easily to a friend that has grown a backbone, sees through his facade and doesn’t hesitate to tell Sherlock off, all of those so called character development are in relation to her interaction with Sherlock.  We want to know more about the person that “mattered the most” to Sherlock Holmes.

It’s such a shame that one of my absolute favorite TV shows barely pass the Bechdel test or didn’t if you asked me.  It’s so disappointing that Mofftiss has to go and kill off Mary.  The only female character in the show that was able to keep with the Holmes brothers (even fool one of them) and has shown both her “normal” and bad ass side.  It’s as if Mofftiss are resolved to make the women in Sherlock meek or turn them into villains.  Mary’s video message to Sherlock after she died “explained” why she has to die, like an explanation from the creators as to why they have to kill Mary.  Mary’s dark past will never allow her to live a normal life permanently.  She enjoyed the danger but she can’t outrun it forever and she expect it to catch up with her soon.  It’s like telling us that Mary does not deserve to be happy.

I hate John Watson now.   I cannot believe he cheated on Mary.  How could he cheated on someone as awesome as Mary?  I bet Mary knew about the other woman, might be another reason why she felt it was okay to die for Sherlock.  John got the nerve to get mad at Sherlock when he should be mad at himself.  John’s infidelity is such a huge surprise, he seemed to be the good guy in the show, the normal one, Sherlock’s moral compass then he just went and had an affair with a random woman he met on the bus.  He’s got a wonderful wife and a beautiful daughter!  How could he?   I am sure the next episodes will shed more light to this boggling turn of events.

I really hate you right now.  Yes Sherlock made a vow and so did you.  You cheated on my dear Mary!!!

Like anyone who have lost a loved one, I need someone to blame and in this case it’s Sherlock Holmes.  I blame Sherlock for Mary’s death because if he never intervened with Mary’s plan she would have got away with it.  But no Sherlock the dragon slayer has to save the damsel in distress.  Not a good idea when the damsel in question is capable of taking care of herself.  If only Sherlock let Mary do her thing, she might have been able to talk to AJ and explain herself and clear things up between them.  If only Sherlock didn’t convinced Mary to return to London because he can protect her better in his “turf”.  If only he didn’t love the drama so much and capture Norbury right away instead of staging an elaborate arrest scene.  If only he didn’t provoked Norbury she might not shot him.  If only he move right away when she shot him, he has good reflexes right?  (As they say if a person has enough time to move in front of someone, then that someone has enough time to move as well).  Yes, in my book it was Sherlock’s fault but John doesn’t have the right to blame him.  John now has to live with his guilt his entire life. Serves him right.

Some fan theorizes that Mary’s death is just a ruse, to keep her family safe.  There’s a small chance that it might be true but I don’t want to get my hopes up.  My heart’s already broken, no need to turn it into tiny splinters.  Mary’s death really shook me.  While it was expected for Mary to die because Mary died in the original ACD story I was hoping that Mofftiss will keep her around longer since she made the story more interesting.  It just so disappointing to see a kick ass female character go in a show that is predominantly male.

I am still reeling from the all that happened in the show.  Can’t wait for the next one but also terrified.  I hope no one on the “good side” dies, to see more of Molly Hooper and Moriarty’s mystery solved.   I am also sad because it is possible that this season will be the last one or it could be years again before they produce another season.  I don’t know if I should be happy that I stumbled upon this show and got so into it, ship Sherlolly and read tons of fan fictions or hoped that I never bothered to watch the first episode and save myself the trouble and heartaches.  Oh wait, I know.  If I have to go back in time I would still watch the show because the awesome characters and brilliant story is worth all the heartaches.  It’s like falling in love lol.  You know you’ll get hurt at some point but you still want to give it a try.

Then next week, I would watch the next episode, get my heart broken, rant about it and then beg Mofftiss for more.

As I was about to post this, I came across an article about Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington’s split in the later part of last year.  I was like, how come I didn’t know about this?  I am so devastated.  My poor heart got broken again.

So what’s the glory in livin’
Doesn’t anybody ever stay together anymore
And if love never lasts forever
Tell me, what’s forever for

Moriarty’s back or is he

Sherlock is so taking over my life. I recently jumped on the bandwagon and joined the Sherlock fandom and just so happy I did.  Sherlock is all that I watch on weekends, all I read when commuting to and from work (both Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s and Sherlolly fanfictions).  I am shipping Sherlolly so hard and so besotted with Sherlock Holmes/Benedict Cumberbatch.  I love everything about the show and the actors.  Like the rest of the fandom, I am anxiously waiting for Season 4 which unfortunately will air next year (that’s the hope,Cumberbatch is so busy and so is Freeman).  There would be a Christmas special episode though and I hope that would be enough to tide me over until the next season (cause seriously the wait is killing me!).

I have seen the all episodes for three seasons and of course season 3 ended with a cliffhanger.  Moriarty’s back or is he? In the last few scenes of the last episode, Sherlock took off in a private plane when suddenly all televisions in London showed Moriarty’s face saying “Did you miss me” in all of his maniacal glory.  Mycroft received a call and in turn called Sherlock and let him know that he is needed.

All of the fans know that Moriarty died, he shot himself in front of Sherlock. He sure did looked dead to me, no one can fake such death.  So how come he’s back and seemed to be wreaking havoc in England again?

My theories are:

1. Richard Brook died, not Moriarty.   Richard Brook was hired to play the consulting criminal while the real Moriarty watches on the sideline (how creepy).  Another questions came into mind, if this theory is true, who is Moriarty? I hope he’s not any of regular characters (that would just break my heart).

2. Moriarty is really dead and will not come back ever.  Mycroft made it appear like Moriarty’s back so that Sherlock doesn’t have to go the exile/suicide mission. How will Mycroft pull it off without anyone knowing? I don’t know but Mycroft is one bad ass who can almost do anything he wants, he is that powerful (at least for me).

3.  The man who met Sherlock in the St. Bart’s rooftop is not Moriarty.  That guy is just someone who put on a very believable mask and was hired to meet Sherlock and off himself (Why would he do that? Moriarty is blackmailing him, using his loved ones against him and threatened to kill  said loved ones if he foiled Moriarty’s plan). Again, if  this is true, who is the real Moriarty?

I ran out of theories, anyways, what matters is that Sherlock is back and the game is on

I am Sherlocked

For the past couple of years, I have been so into TV series, Game of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, Vikings, New Girl and the list could go on and on.   Before this era, I just used to read on almost all my free time.  I read before I sleep, on weekends I read before getting out of bed, I read on my commute (still do) and basically live my life around books (could have been a great thing if only I don’t read too much romance novels).  But recently a new era in my life has started, I got hooked on TV series and needless to say I don’t read as much as I used to and it kinda make me feel bad (probably because those books written by my favorite authors seemed to be glaring at me and say “I am meant to be read, not to be displayed nor to gather dust” every time I see them.  Still I got on with my not so good habit and I am quite happy about it, it’s not only books now that makes me excited for the weekend, but also my favorite shows. Is it pathetic that I can’t wait for the weekend just so I can return to my TV marathon?  Is it weird that a new season of a favorite show got me so giddy? Like I am about to see a guy I really like that I haven’t seen for a long time.  Is it alarming that I got so emotionally invested with the characters and their misfortune bothers me a lot? Probably. It’s not enough that I spent so much time watching my beloved TV series, I have added a new show to the list and I have to say, this show is one of the best!  The whole show is just freaking awesome, from the writers to the actors, simply magnificent.  I am talking about BBC’s Sherlock.  This show has been around since 2010 and I only started paying attention to this great TV show last month.  I was not into it that much until I saw the Scandal in Belgravia episode, that was an epic one. From then on I can’t wait to watch all the episodes and re-watch now that I am done.  Re-watching all those episodes made me realized just how awesome the show is. I could go all day just talking about this amazing TV show and I would just spout off non sense things so I might as well list down the things I love the most about this thing called “SHERLOCK” Things that I love so much in Sherlock

1.  Sherlock Holmes (of course).  Thanks to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for coming up with this awesome character, without him, there would be no Sherlock Holmes.  Sherlock is a high-functioning sociopath (according to him), he is a consulting detective with Scotland Yard.  He is a genius, arrogant, rude, incapable of (almost) any feelings, lives in his own world, does not conform to social norm and brutally honest. benedict cumberbatch I’ve seen other actors played Sherlock Holmes and they all did good but Benedict Cumberbatch is the bomb! He made Sherlock brainy, sexy, dangerous, fragile, funny, annoying but also endearing and looked so hot doing it.  I confessed I am a bit in love with the man. Another fictional boyfriend. sherlock faces

2. John Watson.  He is not just Sherlock’s best friend and assistant but also a man of his own identity.  He is a war veteran and a doctor.  He is so patient with Sherlock but also honest with him, letting Sherlock know that he could be an asshole sometimes.  As Sherlock said during the his best man speech, he will solve your murder but John Watson will save your life.  He has a sense of humor too, something you need to have whenever you are near Sherlock or you’ll end up hurting him. He is Sherlock’s moral compass.  Martin Freeman plays his character very well.  I love how we can express his thoughts and emotions without even saying a word.

 john watson

3. Sherlolly.    I know it sounds awful and just so silly but I ship them so hard!  I just love the idea of them being together. My OTP.  I know Sherlock seemed to be incapable of having feelings and that makes him so interesting and special but I can’t help it.  Some fans think that Molly can’t handle Sherlock but recent episodes proved them wrong.  Every scene between this two is a celebration for me.

molly slaps sherlock

That slap in the face and Sherlock’s reaction? I don’t think he would let anyone else do that to him.

And that kiss, even though it was just an imagined one, it’s was divine!  I wish it was real but then again so there goes the anticipation of waiting whether the whole Sherlock Molly thing would actually happen. The show runners probably just want to keep the fans begging for more.

sherlolly kiss

that kiss!! speaks volume (I know it was only imagined)

5. Molly Hooper I adore Molly Hooper.  She’s so effortlessly beautiful.  She appears to be fragile but she is strong and proved to be a good friend even to one such as Sherlock.  I find her attempts at getting Sherlock’s attention so cute.  Her character is supposed to a one-off but the fantastic Louise Brealey made the producers changed their mind, thank God for that.  Molly could appear shy and timid but there is strength that lies beneath that delicate exterior.

Molly Hooper

I adore her. She is the only regular cast who didn’t appear in any of Doyle’s book.

6. Sherlock and John’s Bromance There friendship is one that stood the test of time.  The more trouble and danger they got into, they stronger their bond gets.  Lots of fans ship Johnlock ( obviously I am Sherlolly shipper but even I won’t deny that these two are really so cute together) and I can’t blame them.  Even in the TV series several people assumed that they are a couple ( Mrs. Hudson & Irene Adler). Their love and loyalty to each other is so strong, each is willing to sacrifice himself for the other.

sherlock and john 221 B

The dynamic duo. The bromance to end all bromance.

The balance each other, one is mercurial the other is steady. I love their chemistry and adore these two so much.

7.  Mycroft Holmes One of the most powerful people in England. He seemed to be more clever than Sherlock, I could be wrong, but he is always at the top of his game.  I could imagine when he and Sherlock are still kids, that would have been a riot.  Like Sherlock he is odd, another high-functioning sociopath and also uses that to help people.  He is more cunning though and colder.  He has this look of that says “I am not human, I got flesh and bones but that’s it”. He may appear cold and distant but its obvious that he cares about his brother. That umbrella of his is worth mentioning too.

mycroft holmes

I felt like I could totally write an entire post for each main characters but that would take time. The actors/characters are in their A game. 8. London. I have this sudden need to visit London (not that I have the money).  I realized that despite the modern technology and all the changes that the world went through, London was able to keep its charm intact.  There’s still an old world feel to it.  I can totally see myself walking down the streets and frequenting cafes.

keep clam sherlock season 4

I can’t keep calm!! I want season 4 now!!!

I am so into this show and…. i am sherlocked

Grey’s Anatomy: The kind of drama that I like

I have been so hooked with TV series lately.  Got so addicted with Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory, both are on season break.  Now I am currently so into Grey’s Anatomy.  I used to watch this show probably 5 years ago then I stopped and lost interest.  Then, couple months ago I decided to catch up and got so surprised with all the changes in the story and who ended up with whom and who died etc. and I tried so hard to stay away from the spoilers but I am not always lucky.   I started with Season 9 which is very heavy on drama.  The first few episodes really got into me and I felt like I was with them experiencing the same thing.  Many faces I have seen the first time, there’s a new batch of intern, new hot guy (Jackson Avery), and so many twists and turns in the story.

I love this show because it does not focus on one person, it tells stories of real life people dealing with real life situations.  I love that it does not stop evolving, that the changes they made sometimes disappoints\ me but they make it work anyway and eventually made up for it.  I love the characters, their quirks, their flaws, their struggles and triumphs.  I love how they look out for each other despite their differences.  I love their story of life and love.

I have to admit though that I am emotionally exhausted with all the twists in their love lives.  I thought Owen and Cristina finally figured out their relationship after all they’ve been through but then Owen really wants a kid and Cristina doesn’t want one, prompting Cristina to let Owen go  (but I really want them together, I am still in ep8 of season 10 and still hoping that their love for each other will endure the test of time).  Will April and Jackson end up together? These two really make me crazy, I really liked the idea of them together but then they seemed to moved on and in a steady relationship with their respective beaus, with April engaged with Matthew.  I was like should I ship the April-Matthew and Stephanie-Jackson thing or in the end it will still be April and Jackson?  I am just emotionally exhausted with these two, come on people make up your mind already!  Arizona cheated on her wife Callie and that is really stupid of her, how could she put her family in jeopardy for a quick sex in the dark? Then Arizona is in a relationship with the intern Leah Murphy.  Which made me think are these people so into sex or this is really how the world goes? I mean you just broke up with someone you love then a few days later you are already having sex with someone else.  In Arizona’s case she didn’t even try to win Callie back or wait till things get better, nope, she just made things worse.  I know, I sound so prude and I didn’t mean to, just curious.  Why do people treat sex like a common commodity, something they can easily trade with anyone?  In Jo and Alex’s case, they were officially together for a week and nothing happened to them yet and it already bothered Jo, I was like, “Really? Sex should be a part of this relationship this early? Okay enough of this.  I just want everyone happy and if they having sex all the time is one of the sure ways to make it work then by all means.

Grey’s Anatomy is the kind of show that I really like.  It has the elements that kept me hooked; very interesting characters, plot that is believable and engaging, the twists, the tension, the suspense and the actors.   Their season finale is always heart-stopping and will keep you on your seat for the whole duration of the show.  I am looking forward to more seasons and may they keep the up the great job.  Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator, is nothing short of a genius.

Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 8: The Mountain and The Viper

This episode will burn in my mind for a long time. I haven’t read all the books so I technically don’t know what happened but with the abundance of spoilers in the internet I found out that Oberyn will die.  So I was thinking, Pedro Pascal portrayed Oberyn Martell really well, his character brought a fresh air to the dreary and bleak story and hoped maybe they will change the story a bit and keep him alive but then I remembered they killed Ned Stark and all hope vanished.     The episode was shown 2 weeks after the last one (Mockingbird) and the wait was agonizing.  I cannot wait to see the battle between the Mountain the the Viper.  As I started watching, all I can think of is the battle, I don’t care about anything or anyone else,  I want the fight start right away.   I have to go through the whole episode though to get to the most awaited part, the battle. The battle was cool, it was well orchestrated and choreographed.  Oberyn’s moves are kick ass but I was so afraid each time the Mountain strikes.  It looked as if Oberyn will win then he got so emotional and starts talking about his beloved sister Elia Martell.  That’s when it gets crazy.  The Mountain was down,  just waiting for Oberyn’s final blow to kill him and Oberyn went on saying that the Mountain murdered his sister’s children then raped and murdered her too.  He wants the Mountain to confess and tell the whole King’s Landing who gave him the orders.  He kept circling the Mountain while yelling then suddenly the Mountain moved and got ahold of Oberyn.  The Mountain hold Oberyn’s head in his humongous  hands and crushed it like it was watermelon.  The scene was sickening.  I was so shocked that I almost screamed.  I asked my sister what I looked like when I was watching and I showed her Ellaria Sand’s reaction, she said we almost had the same reaction. I knew he will die, but not how. Oberyn Martell’s death was graphic, grotesque, gruesome and brutal. I just watched it last night and I still cringe whenever I think of it. It will take a lot of time before I can fully recover from Oberyn’s tragic death.  I don’t feel any consolation for the Mountain’s death. He still won.  I was so devastated by Oberyn’s death that I forgot about Tyrion and the fate that awaits him.  His champion died and Gods decided he is guilty.  What will become of him? I don’t know yet but one thing’s for sure  we’ll see more of  Tyrion and that Oberyn’s crushed head will stay in my head for quite a while.

Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 6 – The Laws of Gods and Men

The Laws of Gods and Men aka the best episode of the season or probably the whole series is freaking amazing!  It was so full of drama, action, surprises and heart stopping scenes.  It made me mad, sad, terrified and it even made me smile (thanks to one pirate). Every freaking second counts.  As always, Game of Thrones never disappoints but this episode is probably the best.  Looking back at the scenes, I am still at awe.  Kudos to the director, writers, producers and actors. That was an episode that set the bar higher.  Episode 2 of this season was my favorite, Joffrey finally died (applause), but episode 6 definitely trumped that one. There are just so much I want to say about the episode but afraid I will not make sense, so I will just  try to break them down to pieces.

1.  The flashbacks. I was kind of disoriented when scenes from previous seasons were shown all concerning Tyrion.  It didn’t made sense until the trial and I have to commend HBO and the producers for that.

2.  Ser Davos convincing  Tycho Nestoris of the Iron Bank to loan Stannis money.  Personally, I wouldn’t be convinced if the same argument was used to me.  I mean, you will loan a man because he is “rightful heir” and honest? All Davos have to do is show his blunt fingers and telling them that Stannis is his prime compared to a prepubescent boy (Tommen) and the old man (Tywin). Whatever, all I know is Davos saved the ungrateful Stannis.  I love seeing the pirate Salladhor Saan, he me made me laugh (which rarely happens when I am watching GoT), seeing him makes me thinks of fun adventures.

3. Yara Greyjoy‘s attempt to free Theon aka Reek.  That was awesome, so exciting and terrifying at the same time.  I came to like Yara and I don’t want her dead just because of Theon (I still hate him).  Yara is a badass, I  was so excited to see her in a combat.  The scene in the kennels was heart pounding especially when the sadistic Ramsay Snow came in, now,  that man easily took Joffrey’s place as the vilest character in the series.  I was so worried for Yara, I don’t want her to be another hostage of Ramsay or be a snack for his dogs.  Good thing Yara realized Theon is not worth her life especially when he is a full fledged Reek now.  Alfie Allen did a fine job of portraying the traumatized, tortured and brainwashed Theon.  He was believable but I don’t want anymore scene with him and Ramsay (but with Ramsay’s plan I’ll seeing more of them for sure).  I was expecting a full on war between house Greyjoy and Bolton and only got a taste of it instead.

4. Daenerys Stormborn, of House Targaryen, the First of her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons  (that was fun haha) realized is not that easy to rule.  Conquering was easy for her and she gets annoying as the story goes on.  She can blame it to her youth, I blame it to her ignorance and arrogance.  She’s like a spoiled child, she’s like I want that and since I have dragons I’ll have them. She’ll ask counsel and she’ll not listen anyway. If you’ll ask me, she amassed her warriors through sheer luck.  In this episode she learned that ruling is a full time job,  hearing supplicants and making decisions for her “people”.  We saw a moment of vulnerability and indecision on her face. Turned out she can easily be swayed.  And her dragons are getting way out of control!! What’s next? They’ll barbecue a human being?  I used to like Dany at the start of  Season 1, not anymore.

5. Oberyn Martell‘s now a member of the small council. I like Oberyn, he’s a breath of fresh air to the series, with all that old, boring faces.  He is an enigma, he appeared to be easygoing and doesn’t have a care in the world but we all know he’s in Kings Landing for a reason.  He’s funny too.  Loved the conversation he had with Varys the Eunuch:

Oberyn: Everybody’s interested in something.

Varys: Not me.  When I see what desire does to people, what it has  done to this country I am very glad to have no part in it.  Besides the absence of desire leaves one free to pursue other things.

Oberyn: Such as?

Varys then looked at the Iron Throne and left Oberyn

Turned out Varys is also interested in the Iron Throne, and I thought he only cares about the realm. (This is one of the reasons GoT is so interesting, characters are so shady, you don’t know whose side are they on, line between good and evil is blurred).

6. Jaimie Lannister’s sacrifice to save Tyrions’ life.  Jaimie’s not the one of the nice guys in the show, but he loves his brother, probably the only one who truly loved Tyrion.  He bargained with his father to spare Tyrion’s life.  He will leave the Kingsguard,  return to Casterly Rock and become Tywin’s heir to continue the Lannister’s  dynasty, if Tywin will assure Tyrion’s survival after the trial.  They had an understanding, Tyrion will be given a chance to plead guilty and be allowed to join the nights watch.  Jaimie’s effort to save Tyrion is heart warming, a scene that is rare in GoT. The question is, will Tyrion plead guilty? Wasn’t the same was promised to Ned Stark by Joffrey? Only he was beheaded after “confessing” his crimes.  Tyrion is stubborn and if he did plead guilty will Tywin remain true to his words?

7. Tyrion Lannister’s trial. I have been missing Tyrion from the previous episodes, only a few scenes in the dungeons.  He made up for it though at the trial.  Tyrion is hands down the best character in the series.  He knew that the trial is nothing but a farce, a charade.  He is guilty in
everyone’s eyes anyway.  The judges are Tywin, Oberyn and Mace Tyrell.  At start of the trial, Tyrion was so cool, he even made me laugh when he said that they can blame the bakers or the pigeon for Joffrey’s death as long as they leave him out of it.   Then came the witnesses, Meryn Trant,  Queen Regent Cersei, Maester Pycelle, Varys all trying to incriminate Tyrion.   Tyrion remained calm until they call the last witness, and the last person Tyrion expected to see, Shae.  He thought Shae was safe, away from Kings Landing.  The look in Tyrion’s face is heartwrenching, he was pleading with his eyes.  Shae wants to get even or maybe Tywin and Cersei threatened her or she was really jealous of Sansa and was hurt when Tyrion sent her away (for her own safety).  Whatever her reason, she broke Tyrion’s heart and put the final nail in Tyrion’s coffin.  The trial reminds me of Tyrion’s trial in the Eyrie where he also “confessed’ his sins and was able to escaped death through wit and quick thinking.  Then Tyrion spoke, he wished to confess and what he said broke my heart (for Tyrion) and thinking of an Emmy (for Peter Dinklage).  I am not an expert in acting (whatsoever) but I am sure that Peter Dinklage’s acting was brilliant.  He gave a powerful monologue, something that will go done in TV history.

Tyrion:  I wish to confess.  I saved you.  I saved this city and all your worthless lives. I should have let Stannis kill you all. I’m guilty. Guilty. Is that what you want to hear?

Tywin: You admit you poisoned the king.

Tyrion:  No – of that i’m innocent. I’m guilty of a far more monstrous crime. I’m guilty of being a dwarf.

Tywin:  You’re not on trial for being a dwarf.

Tyrion:  Oh, yes I am. I’ve been on trial for that my entire life.

Tywin:  Have you nothing to say in your defense?

Tyrion:  Nothing but this — I did not do it. I did not kill Joffrey but I wish that I had. Watching your vicious bastard die gave me more relief than a thousand lying whores. I wish I was the monster you think I am. I wish I had enough poison for the whole pack of you. I would gladly give my life to watch you all swallow it.

Tywin: Ser Meryn — escort the prisoner back to his cell.

Tyrion: I will not give my life for Joffrey’s murder and know I’ll get no justice here, so I will let the gods decide my fate. I demand a trial by combat.

Will he be able to pull this trial by combat thing twice?  Who will be his champion? Jaimie? Bronn, who is not even around during his trial. Will he fight for himself? Oh dear, I cannot wait for the next episode, dying here.

A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones

Words will never be enough to express my utter devotion to the Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series. I am so hooked that I sometimes dream about the characters. I watch the TV series then read the books and I would sometimes asked myself “Should I read the books or watch the TV series first?” A lot of times, I would say “hey that wasn’t in the books” when the TV series turned to be different from what was written. Game of Thrones fever came to me late; I was just hearing and reading about it and got curious. I watched the first episode and I fell, hook, line and sinker. That was just last year.

The Iron Throne

What is Game of Thrones anyway? Why I am so crazy about it? Game of Thrones is a TV series based on A Song of Ice and Fire, the amazing George R. R. Martin‘s series of fantasy novel.   The first book is entitled Game of Thrones (thus the title of the TV series). The series is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos.   If I try to explain more about it I will be finished next year. The storyline has so many arches, told from several points of views (that kept on growing as the series continues), events occurring simultaneously, several books and seasons later and only a year has passed. It’s basically a civil war between noble houses, each believing they are the rightful one to sit in the Iron Throne and rule the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. The story is rich with treachery, intrigue, violence, greed, conspiracy and danger. It is not for the faint-hearted, a lot of people will hate it for its graphic violence and immoral characters but the way G.R.R. spun his tale is magical. He created a world that I can’t even imagine, and he even created a back story, explaining the history of Westores and the once mighty Valyria.   One thing that a reader/viewer must remember when watching/reading, do not be emotionally involved with any character, they might die anytime. I have learned that lesson when Eddard Stark died, I mean how could you kill your major character? Especially one of the few characters who is honorable and just (the same reasons that got him killed). Only the mighty G.R.R. Martin can do that and kept the story interesting. I just wish he writes faster, but we can’t force him can we? The creators of the TV series D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are also doing great in their adaptation. They made several changes that are necessary and they came up with the best ensemble. I can’t imagine anyone else portraying Eddard Stark or Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage is awesome!). The set is fantastic and CGIs are crazy.  I could go on and on but I will never be enough, all I can is both the books and the TV series are splendid.

Westeros

The plot line is wickedly awesome. So many complex characters; never revealing their real motives. It’s like watching a Detective Conan episode sometimes, everyone is a suspect.  You’ll hate a character so much you will be so happy when he finally dies (the disgusting, sadistic Joffrey Baratheon). Or feel so guilty when you have grown to like the character that is having an incestuous relationship with his sister and casually pushed a kid off a tower (Jaimie Lannister). You’ll never forgive the writer if he kills Tyrion or Arya Stark (but the damn spoilers I read about her are still troubling me). Oh dear these characters are so messing with my peace of mind.

There are a few times that I could actually suppressed my addiction to GoT like there’s this one time when I already got the latest episode and was so excited to watch it at home after work but I was so dead tired that I decided I will just sleep early and watch it the next day. I can’t even believe that I can withhold myself of anything that has to do with GoT, so I felt weird and proud of myself at the same time. But that rarely happens. I am like a hound when comes to GoT, once I got a sniff of it, I got to have it. I long to meet someone that shares my love for GoT, my sister likes it too but she is not as addicted. I want to discuss my own theories about the whole story. I want someone to geek out with.

Since I haven’t read all the books, I am trying so hard to stay away from all the spoilers but I am not so lucky all the time. It’s like seeing something you’re not supposed to see and you covered your eyes but it’s too late you saw it already and you’ll berate yourself for being so stupid.

Anyhow, I know this is another idiotic blabber but I love GoT so freaking much.
